Elle’s Top 3 iPhone/iPad Apps for 2012

Top three appsYes, I’m a geek at heart.  Though most of you that know me personally know that I’m kind of a fashionista-geekdiva hybrid all the way through….  Since it’s the eve of the eve for the upcoming New Year and I’m here sitting on the sofa messing with apps on my phone; I thought I’d share my top three faves with you!

Flava Icon

In no particular order, the first one I’d like to tell you about is Flava!  I love Flava because it allows me to “journalize” what’s going on in my life.  Yes, it’s a diary but it’s got some cool additional features that no written diary has to offer.  For one, you can add videos and photos! Another is you can see a slideshow of pix in your journal with music that you pick.  I’ve had this app since early this year and it’s been a blessing to have for recording some of this past year’s best experiences.

Elle’s Best of 2012 List

Ahhhhh! So Christmas has come and gone!  How did you celebrate your Christmas this year?  Did you party like a rockstar and spend lots of time with family and friends?  Or did you just relax at home and share intimate moments with your loved one(s)?  Either way, suffice it to say; I am sure you all scored with the gifts and gift cards!  So If you’re out there thinking of what to spend your cold hard plastic cash on, I’ve put together my Best of 2012 list to help you with deciding!

I so highly recommend each and every one of these items and I’ll tell you why…

First off, ANY thing Lavanila Laboratories makes is exquisitely yummy-smelling that is….  I have the Vanilla Blackberry fragrance and oy-vay, not only do I get asked a lot what I’m wearing; but my hubs loves the scent!  So, what do I do?  I go out and get another scent made by Lavanila and he goes nuts over the Vanilla Coconut!  You might want to try and sample them out first at Sephora.  Walk around and see if it mixes well with your unique “aura”.  The main goal is for you to like it, too.

There are other scents in the line in addition to the vanilla+blackberry and vanilla+coconut, such as pure vanilla on its own, vanilla+passion fruit, vanilla+grapefruit and vanilla+lavender.  So make sure to check it out.  As Lavanila Labs states:  LAVANILA delivers a new generation of 100% healthy products formulated with the highest quality of natural and organic ingredients. They’re packed with vitamins and minerals, and completely free of harsh chemicals.

Back To Basics

So I apologize….   My blog has taken a back seat to an excuse.

The truth is, when I first started blogging, I was getting so much positive rah-rahs from friends and readers that I had an overwhelming feeling of “Oh my gosh, what if I wrote a blog postthat didn’t meet their expectations?!”  I was so consumed with the fear of doing such a bad job and disappointing my readers!  So, what did I do?

Java Browns…

I love love love coffee…  Even a little cup of hot java can go a long way.  Do you drink coffee?  My husband doesn’t drink coffee, but the most amazing thing is he can make a perfect cup for me AND he loves the bean brewing aroma.  When you don’t have a chance to meet a friend for lunch, a short coffee visit works, doesn’t it?  Those coffee visits have become a huge part of my days because of my hectic schedule so as a result, I love coffee!!!

On top of the taste, the aroma….ooooooh….. but the color too!  So inspiring, the rustic coffee spills make a beautiful design as well.  What an inspiration those browns can be…

Gray So Shiny and Warm

It’s been raining here and so gray….but that doesn’t stop me from just plainly feeling “gray”. Here I am looking through my colors of gray inspirations and it just lightens my heart to see, shiny silver, warm whites (starting to feel warmth around me)…..and the sadness of gray is gone! Yves St. Laurent was right when he said that fashion is life….

The Beauty of Tumblr and Tumblr 101 (Part 1/2)

Yes, Tumblr has some of the most beautiful blogs out there.  It appeals to the visually-stimulated part in us.  In fact, Tumblr’s bloggers post and “reblog” some very beautifully-inspiring and shoppingly-motivating photos.  Inspiring because the photos ignite the simplest of emotions in me.  Some of them inspire me to dress up, some inspire me to get artsy and start a craft or a lifelong skill such as drawing, that I’d pushed aside because of life’s daily obligations. Some of these photos also ignite long lost memories of my childhood because there are photos posted from my past that I hadn’t seen in ages!  What Tumblr does for a lot of us is it gives us a digital option to save magazine clippings online!  🙂  Funny thing is, Tumblr also makes me want to shop more, which is why I said some of the blogs were “shoppingly-motivating”.  For some of us, that may not always be a good thing but it’s like having your girlfriends showing you photos of great fashion ideas or products!  What do you do when your friends show you some great stuff?  You go out and buy them!

Anyhow, enough of me telling you how great Tumblr is.  As promised, here my Tumblr 101 Setup Tutorial.  Let me preface this by saying that the following is written purely for the Tumblr newbie.  I won’t go into detail with some of the advanced setup processes, mainly not to overwhelm any beginner blogger.

So!  Let’s get started!

First of all, go to http://tumblr.com

I’ll Tumblr For You

I first opened up my Tumblr Account about a year ago but never really did anything with it.  At the time, I didn’t really know how to get started, how to start posting entries or what the norm was.  So, I left my account unattended…..  Needless to say, I lost some precious time saving many visual images that inspired me.  I lost that time to save links to websites that had great information that I wanted to “collect” as well.  If I were to sum it up, Tumblr is ia visual time capsule of all things we want to save and share…

elleslookbook tumblr page

The photo above is a screenshot of Elle’s Lookbook on Tumblr.  If you take a look at the photo, you’ll notice the  photos I “blogged” (blogged is the term Tumblr bloggers use when they post photos, quotes, notes, etc to their Tumblr blogs).

Now, if you click on a photo, it will either bring you back to the website that the photo was linked to OR it will bring you back to whomever reblogged the photo before I reblogged it to my Tumblr page.  I know, it all sounds too confusing but once you jump in, I tell ya, you will so enjoy it!  It is like having a collection of your favorite books!  For me, it’s a collection of photos that inspire me and photo links to websites that I want to go back to eventually.  Now, I didn’t think much about Tumblr until I started noticing people “liking” or taking interest in my posts.  Each day, I have new followers and they are reblogging my photos on their Tumblr pages because they find it “moved” them.  Originally, I loved Tumblr for the collecting factor, but now; I love it even more for the sharing power it has.  I love it when one of my photos is shared over and over again because someone found it interesting enought to “collect” as well!

I’ll be making a Tumblr tutorial post soon and I’ll show you all the tips and techniques.  It is really easy!  Don’t let it’s plain and empty pages when you first sign up intimidate you.  It is so simple, it’s crazy!  Until then, please visit me on Tumblr and you’ll get a glimpse of what I love and what I love to share…..

When I Grow Up…

lf audrey2When can one stop saying that phrase?  “When I grow up…”?  I say, “Never”!  There are so many women of substance that I so looked up to.  If there were qualities I could inherit from any generation of women, I would claim from the beauties of the 50s…mainly, because they “seemed” to be so regal to a young girl like me at the time.
